Travel Tip: Outdoor Movies

Locations in this article:  Austin, TX Brooklyn, NY Los Angeles, CA

Think it’s crazy to go to the movies when you’re exploring a new city?

Well, I’m not just talking about sitting in a dark theater–I’m talking about interactive, outdoor experiences where you’re actually mingling with the locals.

One of the coolest experiences in Los Angeles does involve celebrities, but it has nothing to do with bus tours or the Walk of Fame.

I’m talking about classic movie screenings inside the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where some of the most famous stars are buried.

Austin’s Movies in the Park series host outdoor movies in partnership with the Parks Foundation. These tend to be family events, and best of all, they’re free!.

Free movies with a view are shown at Brooklyn Bridge Park every Thursday in the summertime. It kicks off with DJs and the movie starts when the sun goes down.

And a summer tradition in Washington D.C. is Screen on the Green at the National Mall every Monday.

So you can get your sightseeing done in the day, and in the evening, grab a spot on the lawn to check out a classical film.
