Travel Tip: Outdoor Activities … Indoors

Locations in this article:  Dubai, United Arab Emirates

If you’re a fan of the outdoors, but aren’t so into braving the elements, you’re in luck. I’ve got some activities that typically take place outside which you can experience … inside.

Of course, the first thing you’re probably thinking of are indoor waterparks, like the Great Wolf Lodge chain, and rock-climbing walls, which can be found all around the country.

But there are some more offbeat experiences as well.

If you want to experience a tropical climate, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo houses one of  the world’s largest indoor rainforests. It spans a whopping 1.5 acres and includes Asian, African and South African rainforests—including a 50-foot waterfall.

While you might assume that lightning only strikes outdoors, think again.

The Boston Science Museum’s Theater of Electricity uses a generator to create indoor lightning bolts. This high-voltage exhibit is free with admission to exhibit halls.

If you thought the only indoor skiing facility is in Dubai, think again. There are three Snowzones in the UK alone.

And keep watching this space for updates: The planned Meadowlands SnowPark in East Rutherford, New Jersey will feature indoor skiing and snowboarding for all levels—the only problem is the opening date keeps getting pushed back!
