Travel Tip: Wedding Gift Registries for Travel Experiences

Travel Tip: Wedding Gift Registries for Travel Experiences
Giving a wedding gift is traditional, but that doesn’t mean you have to decide
between a toaster or coffee maker. These days, couples can register for their
dream honeymoon instead of appliances.

The Big Day is a travel agency that offers an online honeymoon registry service.
Couples can register for items like a dinner, an excursion, or even airfare, and
guests can purchase all or part of the gift.

WeddingChannel.com’s online registry works with a company called Traveler’s Joy.
You don’t have to work with a specific agency, but rather pick and choose the
items you want.

When a guest purchases from the registry, the couple gets a gift certificate or
check to cover the costs of that item.

The benefit is that these services take a lot of the work out of the planning
and organizing.

But read the fine print. These items aren’t necessarily the best value, and most
online registries charge a fee–as much as 7 to 10 percent.

And there are also ways to do it on your own. If you give a check, enclose a
note that it’s only to be used for a romantic dinner.

Or, give a gift card to an adventure travel store. That way your gift is about
the experience and process, not just the product.
