If you love seafood, you may as well make the most out of your travels by learning how to catch it, cook it, and eat it…straight from the local experts.

Maine’s Camden Harbour Inn has a package that includes a two-night stay, and a trip on a lobster boat where you’ll haul up trap. A chef then prepares your catch of the day in a four-course meal. Prince Edward Island in Canada actually has two lobster seasons: in spring and in fall.

Several inns are participating in the Out of Your Shell package. That includes a lesson with a local fisherman, a shucking 101 class to learn how to handle oysters, and, of course, a lobster meal.

If you’re impressed by the guys on Deadliest Catch, why not try out their job for a day? The Bering Sea Crab Fishermen`s Tour in Ketchikan, Alaska follows in their footsteps aboard a crab boat that was used in the popular series.

For about $160, you’ll experience a three-and-a-half-hour tour where you’ll catch and release crab, octopus, and possibly even shark.

And lastly, there’s always the option of chartering a boat to get that hands-on experience. Bohicket Marina on Kiawah Island in South Carolina offers custom excursion for fishing, crabbing, or just observing the pros at work.
