Spiritual Travel & Religious Tours Worldwide

If the term “spiritual travel” makes you think of New Agers who never left Woodstock, or religious tours that don’t apply to you, think again. This travel trend includes a whole world of experiences that may appeal to you.

For starters, 2010 is a big year for those heading to the Oberammergau Passion Play.

Since 1630, this event has only taken place every 10 years in a small Bavarian village, with 2,000 villagers performing from mid-May to early October.

A word of warning: major events like this are a big market for scammers, so read the fine print to make sure play tickets are part of the deal.

One option is to head to a country like Turkey, where you can explore Christianity, Judaism and Islam in one destination.

For example, the Maryland-based Aegean Tours offers several religion-themed tours, exploring the region’s many churches, synagogues and mosques.

The tour company Globus actually has an entire program of faith-based tours.

Travelers can visit destinations like Egypt, Greece and Italy to learn about the regions from historic and religious perspectives.

And then there are closer-to-home destinations that have their own spiritual angle.

How about a vortex tour of Sedona, Arizona, or tribal culture tours in areas like South Dakota or Montana?

Bottom line: a travel trend can include huge variety of learning experiences and activities. The trick is finding the one that works for you.
