Quirky Roadside Attractions

Locations in this article:  Las Vegas, NV Portland, OR St. Louis, MO

Next time you hop in your car for a long trip, take your time and consider making a pit stop at a few quirky roadside attractions like these….

The St. Louis Arch is a must-see if your trip takes you through the Gateway to the West.

But you can find another marvel of innovation a half hour east in Collinsville, Illinois—the world’s largest ketchup bottle.

It’s a 170 foot-tall replica of a Brooks Old Original Rich & Tangy Catsup bottle.

The 100,000 gallon bottle actually held water, not ketchup, but locals still maintain that the red tower wields mystical powers—they think it’s responsible for their town’s unusually high population of red-heads.

On your way to Las Vegas?

Make a quick stop at the World’s Largest Thermometer in Baker, California.

The thermometer is 134 feet tall, which commemorates the record temperature of 134 degrees measured in Death Valley.

You can spot it from the road, so see who can come closest to guessing the temperature.

I’ll give you a hint: it’s hot!

If you’re road-tripping through Maine, see the world’s largest chocolate moose in Scarborough, just 20 minutes south of Portland.

The life-sized moose is known as Lenny and always draws a crowd to nearby Len Libby Candies.

The lesson here? A road trip is as much about the journey as the destination, and traveling off the beaten path can make it a memorable experience.
