Travel Tips
Cheaper Golf Vacations
OK, so golfing getaways don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand with budget travel. But there are ways to get more value out of your golf vacation.
Like other areas of travel, the trick is to play when everyone else isn’t—that is, during off-peak times. Many courses will drop their prices mid-morning or late afternoon.
In Scottsdale, Arizona, for example, Grayhawk Golf Club normally costs $190 in the high season. But they have “twilight” rates for $110, which starts about four hours prior to sunset.
Of course, you have to be flexible, since you may not have time to finish all 18 rounds.
Another travel tip you can apply to golf is to go in the off season.
In destinations like Arizona, Nevada and California, the high season is in the winter, while places like Hilton Head, South Carolina, peak in late spring and summer.
So if you can stand the desert heat mid-summer or brave the cold in winter, you can save up to 50 percent.
Or try the shoulder season, which is that sweet spot in fall and spring when prices are lower and crowds have dissipated.
