A drive away involves cars that need to be relocated or repositioned elsewhere in the country.

There’s no rental fee, and they even give you the first tank of gas free.

All you have to put down is a refundable deposit, and pay for the remainder of your fuel, lodging and food.

One of the best sources to find these deals is the website AutoDriveAway.com, which handles moving car rental fleets and private vehicles.

The major car rental companies also do drive away deals, but they’re not as regular or widely publicized. You have to call up local offices and ask if they have repositioning deals available.

Check in the spring when car rental firms move their fleets from warm-weather destinations like Florida to the Northeast, and vice versa in the fall.
