Zeppelin Tours, Sight Seeing from the Air

Locations in this article:  San Francisco, CA Tokyo, Japan

If you thought Zeppelin travel went the way of the Hindenburg, think again. These days you can actually take a Zeppelin to do some sight seeing from above.

A German company has been offering flying Zeppelin tours since 2001.

Just head to the lake town of Friedrichshafen and you’ll get a flight and tour of the Zeppelin museum.

Similar flights are also available in Tokyo and Rotterdam.

But if you want to stay closer to home, there’s now one in San Francisco called Airship Ventures.

They’ve started offering sightseeing tours on their Zeppelin.

You can take off from three locations in Northern California.

Fly over wine country, the Russian River Valley and other scenic parts of the Bay Area. One little warning though: It’s not cheap.

It’ll cost you about $500 for an hour-long ride.

The good news though if you’re worried about safety, they don’t use hydrogen anymore—they use helium, which isn’t flammable.
