Luxury Hostels

Locations in this article:  Melbourne, Australia

While hostels are traditionally known as being a cheap place to sleep, travelers often expect grimy beds and overcrowded rooms.

Here are some hostels that are going upscale in everything but the price.

Are you in the mood for a home-cooked meal? Stop by the Chalet Martin Hostel, which is located high in the French Alps.

This family-run hostel is a restored 200-year-old farmhouse, and offers private and shared rooms for about $25 a night.

The Home Deluxe Hostel in Valencia, Spain offers private rooms with quirky themes designed by local artists, and it will only cost you about $25 a night.

In Australia, the Base St. Kilda hostel is considered to be one of the hippest places to spend a night in Melbourne.

An overnight package costs about $80, but that includes shared accommodations, a drink at the bar, and a day trip to the Great Ocean Road.
