Safer Road Trips Abroad

Road trips are a great way to explore new places, but if you don’t know the rules of the road, you may be putting yourself, and others, at risk.

According to the Association for Safe International Road Travel, more than 200 U.S. citizens die each year due to road accidents abroad.

If you’re planning a road trip abroad, make sure you follow the international road culture and safety rules.

Many countries, especially developing nations, have different rules and customs when it comes to driving.

Check with the country’s embassy or consulate to learn about any restrictions or requirements.

Also, the Association for Safe International Road Travel offers up-to-date road travel reports for countries as far-reaching as Bahrain, Argentina, Egypt, and Russia.

The U.S. State Department also provides background notes and information sheets on various countries to help prepare road warriors. Visit travel.state.gov for more information.
