Getting Letters from Home While Abroad

If you’re going overseas for an extended period of time, you can still get your mail delivered to wherever you are, and here’s how.

If you’re headed abroad, there are ways to receive letters from that were to be delivered to you at home.

In fact, you can simply have it sent to the local post office. Have the sender address the letter to your name, followed by “general delivery” or “poste restante,” as they say in Europe, and the post office address.

The post office will hold your mail until you come in to pick it up. Just remember to bring your passport.

Another option for receiving your mail is to have it sent to an American Express office.

Anyone can still receive mail at an American Express office, but if you’re a card holder, the service is actually free.

These offices won’t hold packages for you though – only letters.
