Live Like a King, Pay Like a Pauper
Many people know that you can now stay in luxurious villas and medieval castles. But did you know you might actually be able to afford it?
There are a number of ancient castles around the world that have been turned into hotels. And a few are actually affordable.
For example, there’s the Parador de Cardona in Spain, where the average room rate is only about $165 per night, comparable to nearby hotels.
But if you’re under 30 or over 65, you can score a discount of up to 30 percent.
Standard rooms at Balleek Castle in Ireland are about $200 per night for two people—and just $140 per night if you’re solo.
In Germany, Castle Sababurg, the model for Cinderella’s Castle in Grimm’s fairytales, offers a Baroque wedding chapel, theater, and gardens with rooms starting at just $70 per night.
In Northern Bavaria, Burg Colmberg castle has single rooms starting at around $60 per night.
So even if your budget is tight, you can still stay where you feel like a King (or Queen).
