This year, we’re seeing a lot of changes in hotel loyalty programs, from new alliances to expanded offerings. Here’s what’s out there …
For starters, hotel loyalty programs aren’t only for the big hotel chains these days.
Stash Rewards is a reward program for independent hotels, including boutique and historic properties.
Each stay collects points that you can redeem at participating hotels. You get five points for every dollar spent, but the number of points required to redeem that free stay varies by hotel and time of year.
Another new program is called the Global Hotel Alliance, which includes 12 hotel brands such as Omni Hotel and Resorts and The Doyle Collection.
Rather than get free nights, you collect points toward local experiences like VIP wine tasting or a guided nature tour.
Of course, it’s always worth it to do some price comparison– for example, free entrance to the Tower of London is only worth about $24.
Starwood’s Preferred Guest program has formed a partnership with Audience Rewards, so you can earn and redeem points for Broadway shows.
Meanwhile, Expedia is planning to relaunch its rewards program this spring. For every dollar you spend on a hotel stay, you earn a point to be redeemed toward a free hotel stay.
