Luxe Lavs: Hotel Bathtubs With Room for Two

Looking for hotel bathtubs with room for two? This month, Luxe Lavs contributors Angela Fairhurst and Natalie Compagno found romantic hotels around the world—just in time for Valentine’s Day.

February is a month of meaning: The word February is born from the Latin word Februarius, from februare, meaning to “purify” or “expiate.” We can’t think of a better place to do that with your partner than in these hotels with romantic experiences made just for two.

Palazzo Victoria in Verona, Italy

PV_Affresco Suite Bathroom1

In the heart of Verona, home of Shakespeare’s fictional Romeo and Juliet, sits the Palazzo Victoria on a narrow cobblestone street. This hotel is a 14th century palazzo that romanticizes everything with seamless service and over-the-top amenities like the Victoria’s Opera Serenade, which can be arranged in the privacy of your own suite.

After the serenade, our suggestion is to indulge in the glass-windowed bathroom and duo-sized round bath with a waterfall from the ceiling and a large corner shower for two. The walls are designed by Studio Ars and finished with colored lime and oxides, drawn with a metal spatula and neutral resin for waterproofing the area. With cool LED lights on the ceiling and the wall, designers Rocco Este have created an original and inviting environment.

Then if you’re not too spent, join the local Veronese for an Italian tradition—aperitivo cocktail hour at the Victoria Club Bar. If that doesn’t impress you, the location will: The hotel is directly across from Porta Borsari (an ancient Roman gate that actually leads to Rome), and only a five-minute walk from the Arena di Verona and Piazza delle Erbe.

Casa de Campo in Samana, Dominican Republic

Casa de Campo in Samana, Dominican Republic, knows how to combine luxury and privacy, providing a romantic, tropical escape. Everything about the Oceanfront Villas incorporates the “just for two” theme. Two golf carts are available for transportation when venturing away from the “home away from home.” Breakfast for two is prepared daily in the kitchen, and for ultimate relaxation, couples can request a water ritual.

After popping the gratuit Moet Chandon, two can sink into the oblong white standalone tub and celebrate Caribbean life. The bathroom walls open to the outdoors with foliage swaying in the wind on a private patio. The natural accents of stones under the tub, wooden slats leading to the door, and figurines dancing above create a unique and warming ambiance. The lighting is soft, and so are the towels hanging from the walls.

Castle Leslie in Glaslough, Ireland

Master 'Eagles Nest' Bath

Castle Leslie is situated on 1,000 acres of Irish countryside, and the castle is still in the hands of its founding family. About an 80-minute drive from the Dublin airport, each of the castle’s 20 rooms is original and uniquely decorated. They are full of character, furnished with authentic flair, and dotted with family heirlooms.

The Castle has quite a few baths for two. One of the earliest working baths still in use is a giant Victorian in the Red room. There’s a seven-foot tub in Seymour’s room that came from a former Bishop’s palace, and a freestanding bath in the Strong room.

The winner for us is the large copper tub in the Eagles Nest that has views of the lake. The Leslies love fabulous plumbing and have an amazing collection of Victorian and later ware, including a traveling Thunderbox (it’s a box with a lid and hole in it), made for an Earl for the ladies’ picnics and used until quite recently. Okay, now that’s a scary thought. Think we’ll stick with the romantic copper tub!

Four Seasons Resort in Wailea, Maui

Whale tale design Maile suite master bathroom

Fragrant Hawaiian breezes carry floral scents and romantic moments. It is fitting that the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea’s presidential suite is named Maile, a sweet native plant used for royalty and special occasions. The suite is perfect for two, starting with the packages that accompany the reservation.

You can have a private dinner and exclusive use of the Serenity Pool. After this experience, couples can retire to the suite, where the master bedroom hosts a full-size dry sauna. The marble bathroom is elegant with a soft cream and sand color pallet. The white tub has an overflowing lip that gives the impression of a flower opening its petals. Add the Sonos sound system, soft white towels, and flat screen TV, and guests have all the amenities for a night for two—Luxe Lavs style.
