Travel Tip: How to Organize Your Photos

nolaNot sure how to organize your photos? With so many devices that can take pictures—smartphones, tablets, not to mention old-fashioned cameras—it can be tricky.

First, stay on top of managing photos while you’re still traveling, or as soon as you get back. They’ll be fresh in your mind when you’re more likely to keep them in order.

It’s as simple as creating folders on your computer, labeled by date and location.

Back up a copy of all your photos on a separate hard drive. THEN store them through an online service.

SmugMug is what the pros use. You get unlimited uploads and you can display the photos on a website. The only drawback is that it’s not free. The basic plan is $5 a month.

Flickr is a free photo sharing site that’s extremely easy to use. The cool thing is that you can send a link to anyone and they can download high-res versions of the images. No need to email large files.

Here’s a concept: How about actually printing out your favorite photos? I promise, it’ll be a lot more meaningful than any digital file.
