Cruise Ship Safety Tips

Congress is now considering legislation that will require all crimes, injuries, thefts and deaths on cruise ships to be reported, and to make the information not just available to the FBI and the Coast Guard, but online to you.

But the real question is, how safe are cruise ships, and how do you go about protecting yourself on the high seas?

For starters, you have to keep your valuables with you at all times, and leave expensive jewelry and electronics in the ship’s safe.

For women, ask someone from the purser’s staff to escort you to your room at the end of the evening.

If you happen to be a victim of a crime, whether it be a burglary, a theft or an assault, report it immediately, and write down all the details, including the details of how the crew responded to your complaint.

The one thing you need to know is that cruise ships have no legal authorities on board: no police and no marshals.

It’s really up to you to be eyes and ears.
