Travel Tip: How Airport Terminals Can Affect Your Layover

Locations in this article:  Chicago, IL Miami, FL Orlando, FL Philadelphia, PA

airportHave you ever had to change airport terminals in Miami, Chicago, or Newark?

Some of those airport walks are more than a mile.

That also includes the airports in Philadelphia and Orlando.

Sometimes the walk can be excessive within just one terminal, like Delta’s terminal four at JFK.

That’s one of the reasons why a 30- or 40-minute connection time between some flights is just not realistic.

Unless your wheeled baggage is motorized and you can drive it, you’re in for a long march to your gate.

What happened to those people-moving belts?

At many airports they’ve now been removed.

What’s worse, at most of these airports, the only place where you can find baggage carts to rent is at baggage claim, which sort of defeats the purpose.

Two important pieces of advice: Make sure all of your carry ons have wheels, and never book connecting flights with less than 90 minutes between arrival and departure.

Unless, of course, you’re a gold medal sprinter.

Even then, you might not win the race.
