Travel Tip: Celebrate With Traditional Holiday Displays

mission innEven if you’re the world’s biggest Grinch, you have to admit: everybody loves a good holiday display.

Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia is all about recreating life in 18th century America. The entire village is decked out in traditional decorations. Carolers sing in the streets and bonfires are blazing.

In the Historic Area, you’ll notice candles lighting the windows in each and every home.

At Callaway Gardens in Georgia, the Fantasy in Lights show has eight million bulbs, and more than a dozen scenes—some of which were actually designed by former Disney Imagineers.

Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is not just the gateway to the Smoky Mountains; it’s also home to Dollywood. So the celebrations are understandably over the top, with 5 million lights, a daily float parade, and performances.

Even in 72-degree weather, Southern California gets into the holiday spirit. The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa has celebrated the Festival of Lights for 22 years, with 4 million lights and more than 400 animatronic characters.

It’s so elaborate that it takes engineers at least 10 weeks to put it all together.
