Travel Tip: How To Travel With Your Allergies

allergymedicineAnyone who suffers from  allergies knows the pain of travel—traces of smoke, dust, even down pillows in a hotel bed can set you off. But things are getting easier.

Crystal Cruises is the first cruise line to offer hypoallergenic staterooms. What’s cool is that they don’t charge any extra for these cabins—it’s first come, first serve.

The cabins underwent a thorough, seven-step process of deep cleaning and purifying to eliminate allergy triggers.

Major hotel brands like Hilton, Hyatt, and Fairmont also offer allergen-free rooms. Just remember…they cost extra.

Can’t find a room that’s been through the process? There are some steps you can take yourself.

Ask for a room that’s farthest from the pool, and try to stay on a high floor, where it’s more difficult for mold to grow.

Skip the pet-friendly hotels, but if that’s not possible, ask which rooms have been pet free the longest.

Ask to swap out down pillows and blankets, and don’t be afraid to ask for an air purifier to be put in your room. You might be surprised by what the hotels have on hand.
