I was so sorry to learn of the passing of California broadcasting legend Huell Howser. I so appreciated his passion for the state and everything (and everyone) in it. I loved his energy. I loved his sense of discovery and his love affair of the myth, the magic, the wonderment of California.
Every time I watched one of his broadcasts I learned something. He had fun, but he was also the consummate guide, sharing with us the history and personality of place and all the absolute quirkiness that comes with any tour of the golden state. Huell was, literally, an institution.
For those of us lucky enough to watch him, and in my case, to work with him over the years it was a true pleasure. He loved his job and we loved him. He will be missed.
