Contributor Roy Berger might not be on the winning team at Yankees’ baseball camp, but he’s finding new ways to have fun refining his game and hanging with Yankee legends. Check back tomorrow to see if the losing streak continues.

Mama said there would be weeks like this.

When I met our team at the opening Yankee Fantasy Camp banquet on Monday night and saw virtually everyone was a Yankee camp rookie, I knew it would be an interesting week. All of the other seven teams were comprised of a good amount of camp vets that choose to play on the same team together. We seemingly got what was left.

We have now lost four straight, so the fun times and laughs are going to have to happen off the field for BarryO. Wednesday started just that way.

I spent a little time with former Yankee shortstop Bucky Dent, who will always hold a soft spot in a Yankee fans heart for the home run hit off Mike Torrez in October,1978 to beat the hated Red Sox in a one game playoff!

We were chatting in the lobby before heading to the stadium for the day when BarryO sticks out his hand and in all earnest says “Hi, what’s your name?”

What’s your name? This is Bucky Dent. The Bucky Dent that hit arguably the most famous home run in Yankee history. The Bucky Dent that will forever be known as Bucky F***ing Dent throughout New England. No Yankee fan ever asks Bucky Dent, “What’s your name?” We know his name and will always cherish what he did for us on October 2, 1978! What’s your name?

We get to Steinbrenner Field, throw our stuff into the clubhouse and head to the cafeteria for breakfast. Who comes over and says “mind if I join you?” but Bucky Dent. I couldn’t let Barry off the hook so I told Bucky that afterwards Barry said to me “Geez, the guy gets one hit in his life and I’m supposed to know who he is?”

Dent said not one day goes by that someone doesn’t bring up the home run.
