Gadgets That Keep Kids Safe

Locations in this article:  San Diego, CA

There are plenty of gadgets and gizmos to make your travels a little easier—but what about a device that might help save a child’s life? Here’s what’s available to help protect your kids when you’re on the road.

The folks behind the Amber Alert have a product called My Child ID.

It’s a USB device that can fit onto a keychain, and stores data such as your child’s photos, height and weight, emergency contact information, and medical details.

The cool thing about this device is that it’s linked to the Amber Alert/ Law Enforcement Alerting Portal.

It’s compatible for both PCs and Macs, and costs about $40.

The National Child ID program has an ID Kit that stores your child’s personal details, fingerprints, and even a DNA swab, starting from about $10.

A San Diego-based company creates simple identification cards for children called Kidsafe ID.

Parents can customize and print their own card, or order a more durable laminated card.

If you want to make your own child ID, remember that the premise is simple: if your child goes missing, it’s easy to get confused and overwhelmed in the heat of the moment.

Have your child’s vital information on hand to give authorities so that no precious time is wasted.
