Healthy Getaways for Those in Need

If you’re struggling with finances or health problems, that doesn’t mean a getaway is out of reach. In fact, some spas and inns are actually reaching out to travelers in need during these tough times.

In Brattleboro, Vermont, the 40 Putney Road Bed and Breakfast is giving away one healthy getaway each month to an uninsured couple in need of some stress relief.

That includes a two-night free stay, breakfast and afternoon tea, outdoor activities, and, of course, an apple a day.

The “B&B Public Option Getaway,” is going to run until Congress adopts a health care reform bill with a public option—or until June 2010—whichever comes first.

A non-profit organization called “Greet the Day” offers massage and bodywork programs for people with cancer, and partners up with spas around the country to provide services.

To support Greet the Day, once a month, Spa Gregories in California opens its doors for referred cancer patients to receive free treatments.

In Illinois, an organization called Faye’s Light relies on donations to provide free spa services for people with cancer.

And for one week every year, the residents of Jackson Village, New Hampshire, come together to open their doors for people with multiple sclerosis, with free workshops, accommodations, and most important, support.
