The Essentials

Best and Worst States for Camping

In the wake of Covid-19 and more travel restrictions, a growing number of us are hitting the road to go camping.

A recent research project has now ranked all 50 United States as to which are best — and worst — for camping.

Based on everything from campsite quality and availability, to rainfall and crime, which state ranked number one? It might surprise you.

Rhode Island is number one and wins on campsite quality.

Utah comes in at second place with clear skies, low average rainfall and low fuel prices.

The lowest ranking campsite state is Wyoming due to a high number of accidents and criminal activity.

And here’s a surprise. Montana is ranked as the second worst state for camping, and Nevada’s high air pollution levels and poor quality drinking water puts it near the bottom of the list as well.
