Booze Packages on Cruises: Worth the Cheers?

If you like to take cruises, then you probably understand the sticker shock of your bar tab at the end of the trip.

Enter the brave new world of drink packages offered by many cruise lines, where you pay for your drinks up front without always hitting your wallet every time you lift a glass.

Do these packages make sense? Many start at $16 a day and include just standard brands and can go as high as $70 a day.

Wine packages let you pre-purchase multiple bottles at costs that are up to nearly $700. And they also don’t include 18% gratuities every time you order. Are they worth it? If you’re a serious drinker…maybe.

But what might be worth it, if you’re cruising with kids, are the cruise line’s soft drinks packages and that’s only if you want to allow your kids an unending sugar rush at sea.
