Cashless Toll Roads: What You Need to Know
Planning a road trip in your own car or a rental vehicle?
The days of throwing quarters into toll baskets are nearly over, and we’re now in the age of cashless tolls.
If you have a registered toll payment account in your city, it’s easier than ever.
But if you’re traveling out of state or in a rental car, it can get confusing and costly. Each rental car company has its own toll payment policy — some offer a flat fee for each day of the rental, regardless of whether you pass through a toll.
Others bill you later for the tolls you incur, plus a premium handling fee.
Always check ahead to see if you can use your own transponder in the rental car.
