Countries That Are Implementing a Tourist Tax

A growing number of countries are adding a tourist tax or an entry fee to visit, in an attempt to manage overtourism.

Starting this month, New Zealand will triple its entry fee to 100 New Zealand dollars.

In one Vermont location, if you want to leaf-peep, fall foliage tourism doesn’t have a fee — in the town of Pomfret, they are closing access roads to non-residents.

The same is true this fall in Lauterbrunnen, a Swiss Alps town. Want to visit? It will cost you about $11. But if you arrive by public transportation, it’s free.
