Photo of the Week — October 1, 2024

Congratulations to this week’s photo winner, Geoff Keith!

Geoff captions this photo, “One of our excursions from a recent trip on the Viking Yi Dun was to the Nanjing Toulou site in southern Fujian, China which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These “earthen” walled buildings housed hundreds of Hakka people. Usually three to five stories high the kitchen is on the ground floor. The original building in the middle is square. The second one above it is oval and the other three are circular. The two buildings to the right are the “chopsticks.”

“Our guide noted that during the Cold War, US U2 flights mistook these structures as missile silos due to their unique appearance from above,” he writes.
