So, what constitutes a great picture when you’re traveling?
Answer: one in which you don’t die — literally — trying to take it.
We seem to have developed a large and growing group of travelers who think that the definition of a great picture has to include them in that picture.
This selfie mentality can actually be fatal. In the last 13 years, nearly 400 people around the world have died while taking selfies.
To put that number in perspective, that’s four times the number of fatalities from shark attacks. Coming in second place for cause of death: falls from bridges, buildings, cliffs, and other high public places.
A sobering statistic: tourists accounted for more than a third of all victims.
