Americans are now tipping more, and in many cases, without realizing they have a choice.
In some cases, taxi screens will pop up with tip amounts starting at 25%, restaurant checks come with pre-printed suggestions for tip amounts based on the purchase amount.
But what many folks don’t realize is that depending on the quality of the service and the type of service you’re receiving, you don’t have to accept the amount or percentage shown on the screen.
Many of these screens can be overridden. It may take another minute or so, but you can put in your own percentage or dollar amount — higher or lower — that more accurately reflects your response to that service.
