The Essentials

Ways to Learn Languages

This is the time of year when many travelers want to learn a new language, in anticipation of a summer trip abroad.

And thankfully there are some great language learning apps on the market.

Rosetta Stone was founded nearly 30 years ago, and it offers courses in 20 separate languages. The app will cost you about $12 a month.

Duolingo is an app that offers 36 languages — even Navajo — and runs about $7 a month.

Drops is a good app, if you can only spend five minutes a day on your language skills. In fact, you can access one Drops lesson per day for free.
