Photo of the Week — August 11, 2022

Congratulations to this week’s photo of the week winner, Karyn Planett!

Karyn sent this photo of the changing of the Evzone Guard ceremony at Syntagma Square in Athens, Greece.

She writes, “Traditional uniforms include starched 400-pleat skirts called “Fustanella” and shoe pom-poms that are said to date back to the ancient Mycenaeans. It’s believed that the number “400″ commemorates the number of years Greece was under Turkish rule. These skirts alone take a master tailor nearly three months to complete. I was fortunate to be in the perfect spot to get some extraordinary photos. Note the soldiers’ shadows. It was a hot summer day with no shade in sight.”
