The Essentials

U.S. Airports with the Worst Delays

What do many air travelers hate the most? The creeping delay.

Airlines that change departure time in 15 or 20 minute increments, and then finally cancel the flight when the plane can’t operate or the flight crew exceeds its maximum legal duty time.

So which U.S. airports have the worst delay records?

Chicago’s Midway Airport is number one with 36% of its flights delayed, followed at 33% by Orlando.

JFK is number three on the delay list, but most of its flights do finally take off.

Flying out of Newark? 30% of its flights are also delayed.

The real challenge is the airports that connect thousands of passengers every day, like Charlotte and Denver. When booking flights through those airports, give yourself at least a three hour connection time.
