The Essentials

Art Installations at Airports

If you’re like me, you don’t want to just go to an airport and spend time there. You want to go through it, get on your plane and go.

But every once in a while, an airport gives you a reason to linger. Some great, rotating art exhibitions can be found at San Francisco International Airport. As you go to the gate, don’t take the moving walkway. Instead, walk at your own pace and look at the exhibits. Each tells a story based on the theme of the installation.

And at New York’s newly rebuilt LaGuardia Airport, the art on the walls, especially in Terminal B, are worthy of taking the time. One obvious caution is that there’s art appreciation and then there’s missing your flight. So if you’re interested, allow for extra time.
