The Essentials

Most Expensive Small Town

Until quite recently, conventional wisdom held that the cost of living in big cities like New York and Los Angeles was considerably more than small towns in America. But the pandemic changed the numbers.

More and more people were either traveling to or permanently moving to small towns. According to the most recent financial survey, the most expensive town in the U.S. is Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts with a median home value of nearly $700,000.

Other expensive small towns include Breckenridge, Colorado, Jackson, Wyoming, Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Hailey, Idaho. They each offer smaller populations, baked in social distancing, wide-open spaces, and a much higher price tag.
