Missed Your Flight? What One Airline Might Do to Help

For many years, there was something called the “flat tire rule.”

It was a rather informal understanding at many airlines that if you missed your flight due to everything from traffic, to illness or a flat tire and got to the airport within about two hours of your departure, the airline counter agent would put you on the next available flight at no additional cost.

Then came the era of “every possible fee” and the “flat tire rule” disappeared.

If you miss your flight, pay more to fly out on the next plane.

Now, American Airlines has announced a 15 minute rebooking policy if you just miss your flight.

It’s the same deal as the “flat tire rule” but with a much shorter time window. So if you get a flat tire on the way to the airport, let’s hope an Indianapolis pit crew is nearby!
