The Essentials

Pent-Up Travel Demand Is Showing

The TSA just went through a stretch of 18 straight days of screening more than one million air passengers a day.

American Airlines is reporting 80% load factors on its flights. Delta is no longer blocking middle seats.

Cruise lines are selling out on trips for ships now departing from the Bahamas and St. Lucia, not Miami, New York or Ft Lauderdale.

This is no doubt a reflection of huge pent-up travel demand.

And yes, airfares are going up at the rate of about 7% a week and that’s compounded. So the time to plan ahead is now.

One key strategy is if you have a lot of unredeemed frequent flyer miles lying around, use them now for flights up to 330 days out.

There are still mileage seats available, and in many cases, at reduced redemption levels. But you’ll need to move quickly.
