When the world reopens to travel, there are a number of places I call remote possibilities — that will give you a great travel experience without the crowds.

Nearly 300 mountain huts in Switzerland and Austria are available to rent. You can stay in lighthouses in England, Croatia and Wales.

There are a number of private islands in Scotland. You can find a few where you can rent a house with very few people around you.

And back here in the United States, if you still have that adventure spirit, there are dozens of U.S. Forest Service fire lookouts you can rent for as little as $45 a night. This is definitely a “bring your own everything” experience, but you can’t beat the views.
