The Essentials

Be Aware of Biking Rules

When travel resumes, there’s a good chance that more and more of us will be riding bicycles when we get to our destinations.

Many of us are getting used to riding our bikes during the quarantine. But be prepared for more — and different — bike rules in cities around the world.

Are you riding a bike in Washington, D.C.? Don’t wear headphones. It will get you a $50 ticket.

If you ride a bike in Sydney and don’t have a bell, the fine will set you back around $80.

In England, you can’t ride on the sidewalks. That’s a $45 penalty.

Did you forget your helmet in Seattle? Don’t ride or it will cost you $102.

And in New York City, where there are now more than 80 miles of  bike lanes, if you choose to ride amongst the cars, that will set you back $130.
