How Frequent Flyer Mile Redemptions May Be More In Your Favor

Not very long ago, it was almost impossible to redeem frequent flyer awards on desired flights. No airline wanted to displace revenue passengers.

Thanks to the coronavirus, there are now more award seats available than ever before, and that promises to be the case throughout the rest of this year. What used to cost 90,000 miles — assuming an award was even available — on a flight from New York to London is now down to 30,000 or 40,000 miles. And we’re talking business class.

A business class trip from New York to Sydney was going for a whopping 480,000 miles just a few months ago. Recently, it was available for 57,000 miles.

I’m not suggesting you travel now, but consider that once we get past the coronavirus, it will take about two months at the very least for travel numbers to begin to equal what they were last year at this time. And that’s the time to cash in your earned miles.
