If I mention Orlando, Florida, chances are you’re going to think of Walt Disney World or Universal Studios, but what about Polk County, Florida or Haines City, Florida?

Chances are you’ve never heard of them, and even if you have, you have no idea where they’re located. They’re in Central Florida as well — about midway between Orlando and Tampa — and a perfect hub to see all those theme parks and then a few other attractions that may not be in the brochures or the guidebooks. And it’s all without the intensity and a lot less stress.

Not only that, Polk County also provides an alternative to staying at the theme parks or at nearby expensive hotels.
