If you’re a senior citizen, you can get a measurable discount at the movie theatres, on subways and buses in major U.S. cities, on Amtrak and often at attractions like city tours and museums.

But what about airfares? When you book a flight online, you’re always prompted to note your age. But for those folks older than 62, it doesn’t result in any savings.

And some airlines that used to offer a senior discount have now eliminated it.

As of December of this year, Southwest is getting rid of the senior fares. For example, one regular Southwest fare was $1,198. But seniors got it for $685 – and not anymore.

Now everyone is competing for the harder to get, advance discount fares.
