Scott McCartney, Author & Travel Editor for The Wall Street Journal, joins the program to discuss the issues created by the recent government shutdown and how the travel sector played a major role in bringing it to an end – temporarily, at least. He then addresses the concerns that come from flight attendants pitching credit card application sales in the air and why it’s problematic. Plus, he shares his thoughts on the dilemmas that come from frequent flyer miles and booking airline tickets.

Arnie Weissmann, Editor-in-Chief at Travel Weekly, discusses some of the reasons why hotel brands don’t lie, the two-year aftermath of Marriott’s acquisition of Starwood and why hotel owners don’t actually want to change anything. Arnie then talks about overtourism in Venice – where and when to book and when to visit for a one-on-one with the city.

Costas Christ, Director of Sustainability for the Virtuoso Travel Network and Editor-at-Large for National Geographic Traveler, is welcomed back to the show and talks about the true meaning of sustainable tourism – it’s not about volume, it’s about value. He also discusses how to achieve successful and sustainable impact via tourists and the importance of educating travelers about sustainable cruising, including which cruise lines are banning single-use plastic items.

George Hobica, Travel Expert, Journalist and Fly Guy Columnist for USA Today, talks about 2019 being the year that everyone wants to travel. And on the subject of traveling, George explains how destinations can tell us about what is missing in our own lives and shares his own example. He then talks about facial recognition and biometrics. Find out which airports and and airlines are testing these.

Ian McAllister, Director of Great Bear Rainforest, talks about the three years it took to make the film and how the crew lives on boats for more than a year with grizzly bears around. He reveals some of the challenges his crew faced while shooting and the spectacular and unplanned moments that made it all worthwhile.

Anne and Mike Howard, Founders of HoneyTrek and Authors of National Geographic’s Ultimate Journeys for Two, join the show to discuss their seven-year honeymoon, reviewing over 200 romantic hotels around the world and sharing real experiences together – especially those that are outside of your comfort zone. They also share their insight into keeping a positive attitude, packing light and how to know if someone can be your life partner.

Kathleen Gonzalez, Author of First Spritz Is Free: Confessions of Venice Addicts, shares her love for Venice, its summer festivals and experiencing life alongside Venetians. Kathleen then shares some of her favorite things to see in the city, including cemeteries and ferryboats.
