Travel Tip: Travel That Supports Animal Rights

We’ve all heard of environmentally responsible travel. But what about travel that respects and supports animal rights?

In Europe, travel operator Thomas Cook just announced it will stop selling tickets to SeaWorld in Florida and to another similar wildlife park in Tenerife in 2019. In making this decision, the company said it had engaged animal welfare specialists over a period of 18 months and then asked their customers for their feedback—90% of them choose to book their vacations with a company that takes animal rights seriously.

This move by the largest travel company in Europe may signal similar moves in the U.S. There’s no word from SeaWorld, which had already canceled its orca attraction.

But it seems that this may be a wave that is just beginning to form. As travelers are voting with their wallets and their consciences, other tour operators may follow suit.
