Travel Tip: Regulation of Alcohol Consumption Before Flights

Every time you hear that a passenger has been removed for bad behavior from a flight or that there’s been an altercation in the air, there’s a very good chance that alcohol has been involved.

Any time a plane has been delayed on the ground, there’s a higher likelihood of bad passenger behavior. It’s usually compounded by alcohol consumed at airport bars near departure gates. Now, at least one airline is calling for authorities to restrict alcohol sales at airports following an increase in flights disrupted due to alcohol related incidents.

For starters, Ryanair is calling for tighter regulations on alcohol sales at airports in Ireland. On one Dublin to Ibiza flight in June, three passengers were drunk and disorderly and the plane had to divert to France.

On a Ryanair Latvia to England flight, a drunk passenger, who had apparently consumed half a bottle of vodka before boarding, assaulted crew members. Ryanair is calling for a two drink limit per passenger and no alcohol sales before 10 a.m. I have another idea. How about mandatory breathalyzers at airport jetways?
