Travel Tip: Summer Sales on Airfare

Locations in this article:  Buffalo, NY Denver, CO Minneapolis, MN

Summer is almost here and that means higher airfares, right? Not this year.

Airfares are trending lower–and staying that way–and it’s not because the airlines have decided to be philanthropic. It’s the law of supply and demand. Overseas visitor numbers to the United States have dropped dramatically–some say as much as 9%.

What this means is that what would have been the foreign travelers’ return seats home are empty and available as our outbound seats overseas. Translation: You don’t have to wait for airfare sales to start in September. They’re already on sale and not just in the back of the plane.

There are many discounts and two for one deals this year as well. In business class, it has become a buyer’s market for overseas airfares. In many cases, it has now become cheaper to fly between New York and Europe than New York and Minneapolis, Buffalo or Denver.
