The next time you’re taking a road trip, your smartphone can actually help you save money on gas.
There are now a number of new apps designed specifically to find the best prices at the pump wherever you go. Currently the national average price for gas is $2.90 a gallon. It’s the highest point in three years, and so the savings may now be more meaningful.
One app is called Gas Buddy, and it directs you to the cheapest gas stations. It even allows you to pay with the app to get even more discounts per each gallon purchased.
Then there’s an app called Get Upside. It’s a cash back program — up to 25 cents a gallon. The app works in Washington D.C., Virginia, New York and Florida.
