Locations in this article:  Atlanta, GA Beijing, China Chicago, IL Denver, CO Los Angeles, CA Shanghai, China

The new numbers are out for the world’s busiest airports. Guess who’s number one? It’s Atlanta with 104 million passengers last year.

A deeper dive into those numbers reveals that most of those folks didn’t fly to Atlanta but through it. Consider this. Atlanta is within a two hour flight of 80% of the U.S. population.

Number two is Beijing right behind Atlanta with 96 million travelers. And Shanghai is number nine.

Two other United States’ airports made the top 10 busiest–Los Angeles with nearly 85 million passengers and Chicago’s O’Hare at number six at 80 million.

This year, with more than 1.3 billion people expected to cross an international border, almost every airport is reporting huge numbers. Even the 20th busiest airport in the world, Denver, had 61 million passengers fly through the Mile High City last year.
