Red, the color of blood, fire, and rubies, is frequently associated with love, passion, desire, longing, and romance. To honor Valentine’s Day, Luxe Lavs contributor Angela Fairhurst found four hotel bathrooms that will make you blush.

The Yeatman in Porto, Portugal

Porto is a UNESCO Heritage site next to the ancient ‘lodges’ where Port houses aged their wines for over three centuries. The Yeatman Hotel is located on seven acres of land in the heart of the historic Vila Nova de Gaia overlooking the town of Porto. The hotel was named in celebration of the Yeatman family who entered the Port trade in 1838. Today, it’s a leading European hotel with Portuguese wines stored in its award-winning wine cellar, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant, and Vinotherapie spa treatments inspired by the vine. All rooms and suites have a private terrace with panoramic views. The most romantic suite is the Bacchus Suite, where a round copper Jacuzzi sits in the same room as a large rotating bed. This luxurious suite extends onto a furnished conservatory with a fireplace and a private exterior terrace where you can marvel at the panoramic views of Porto and the River Douro.

Hotel Principe di Savoia in Milan, Italy

Dorchester Collection’s Hotel Principe di Savoia, usually referred to as The Principe, is a five-star hotel in Milan, Italy. The streets surrounding the hotel are named after Italian explorers, philosophers, and scientists with the spirit of adventure mirrored in the hotel’s dedication to innovation. The hotel’s interiors were designed by London-based designer Francesca Basu. Modern luxury is woven through traditional Milanese design in the 48 mosaic guest rooms. Frosted and clear glass panels work to provide both privacy and the illusion of space. Basu redesigned traditional rosewood or walnut vanities to have red glass tops. The carpeting is a modern take on a traditional floral design in neutral colors. The spacious bright bathrooms in each of the mosaic rooms are classical Italian design and feature a wall mosaic in one of three different colors—red, blue, and yellow. Hotel Principe di Savoia’s has Colonia amenities by the celebrated Italian brand, “Acqua di Parma,” including bath foam, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, bath salts, perfumes, and soaps.

La Residence in Franschhoek, South Africa

Franschhoek, which means “French Corner” in Dutch, is a picturesque village in South Africa full of character distinguished by its fine colonial architecture, numerous gourmet restaurants, art galleries, and curio shops. Located in the wine country region of Franschhoek, La Residence is part of The Royal Portfolio, whose mission is to give guests a complete experience and a perfect stay. The 30-acre private estate is surrounded by vineyards, plum orchards, and a backdrop of mountains. There are 11 suites at the hotel and five freestanding Vineyard Suites, each offering both privacy and space for families as well as groups of friends. Designed by Liz Biden, every suite has its own color scheme and set of design influences. The Hibiscus Suite is a party in pink: the floral artwork, fabrics, and furnishings make an elegant statement. The bathroom is done in pink marble with French antiques, delicately patterned rugs, and a clawfoot tub. Villa Suite 5 is fitted with antique Chinese cabinets and brightly painted furniture accented in raspberry velvet. The bathroom has a giant red mirror spanning the width of the walls.

Rome Cavalieri in Rome, Italy

Opened in 1963, Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts is known as one of the Eternal City’s leading hotels. This unique property is situated on the city’s highest hilltop in a 15-acre private Mediterranean park overlooking Rome and Vatican City. The hotel has a museum-worthy art collection, a 26,900-square-foot spa, and Rome’s only three-Michelin-starred restaurant, La Pergola. All 345 rooms have their own balconies. The suites occupy the top two Imperial Club floors. The 2,115-square-foot Penthouse Suite bathroom has walls made of rare marble with malachite inlay and trimmed in Swarovski crystals, a luxe triple-head shower, and scent therapy. The highlight of the bathroom is a magnificent hydromassage tub, set on a platform, from where you can enjoy a view of St. Peter’s Basilica Dome through two-way glass. The two special chromotherapy windows can be colorized with red as well as green, blue, violet, and yellow hues. The Penthouse Suite also includes a 2,300-square-foot private roof garden with a whirlpool, which also has great views of the Vatican.
